Question: which programming language is easy and fast?

I'd go with ASP.NET. With ASP.NET you have access to Silverlight which is gaining widespread use and popularity. ASP.NET is fairly easy to catch on with and the Express versions of Visual Web Developer are free so you can get started.

I've done a bit of both, and though asp.net is easy to get started on using visual studio (drag and drop etc), I prefer PHP because it is quick to learn, powerful, free and open-source

They both are good. I think PHP is easier. The fast part... well... that doesn't exactly apply to websites. Website scripts usually don't do much. Now, if you wanted to write a search engine... that's different... I'd go with C++ and execute the .exe from the PHP.
